For a thorough clean of your oven rack, we offer effective solutions such as HG oven, grill and barbecue cleaner and HG Power gel brush oven cleaner. These products quickly and effectively remove burnt-on fats and stubborn baked-on residue from your rack. There are also some household methods you can try, such as soaking racks in hot water with washing-up liquid or using a paste of water and baking soda, although these do not always guarantee optimal results. Solutions for cleaning oven racks
Cleaning oven racks can be challenging, but there are several household solutions you can try. While these methods do not always guarantee optimal results and require some care, they can be effective in some cases:
- Soak the racks in a mixture of hot water and washing-up liquid. Leave them to soak for a few hours or overnight, then gently scrub with a scouring sponge.
- Make a paste of water and baking soda and apply it to the racks. Leave it for a few hours and then scrub off the dirt with a scouring sponge or old toothbrush.
- Place the racks in a large sealed bag with a few dishwasher tablets and hot water. Leave them to soak overnight, then rinse thoroughly.
- Place the racks in the sink on an old towel and pour boiling water over them. Leave them to cool, then scrub clean with washing-up liquid and a sponge.
Although some people suggest cleaning oven racks in the dishwasher, we do not recommend this as it can damage the racks and the dishwasher. Try the methods above carefully, but do not expect perfect results. For stubborn dirt, we recommend going straight for HG oven, grill and barbecue cleaner or HG Power gel brush oven cleaner, which are specially developed for oven racks.
Causes of a soiled oven rack
A soiled oven rack can have various causes:
- Regularly preparing fatty dishes, which causes fat splatters to land on the rack.
- Not cleaning the rack promptly after use, allowing dirt and fat to bake on.
- Using foil or baking paper that is not properly secured, allowing food remnants to fall onto the rack.
- Spilling marinades or sauces during preparation.
To prevent a soiled oven rack in future, you can take the following steps: Clean the rack regularly with warm water and washing-up liquid or in the dishwasher, if permitted according to the manufacturer's instructions. Cover the rack with foil or baking paper when preparing fatty dishes to minimise fat splatters. Place a baking tray below the rack to catch drips and crumbs. Wipe away spilled liquids or food immediately after preparation to prevent them from baking on.
