How To Descale A Coffee Machine 01

How to descale a coffee machine with vinegar?

Descaling a coffee machine with white vinegar can be an affordable solution, although it does not always deliver the best results. Mix white vinegar and water in equal parts, run the mixture through the machine and repeat if necessary. Then rinse thoroughly with clean water. For optimal results, and to avoid risks, we recommend using specially developed products instead, such as the HG coffee machine descaler based on lactic acid or citric acid. These descalers remove limescale safely, quickly and without odour from all types of espresso and pod coffee machines. Always check the manufacturer's maintenance instructions beforehand.

HG solutions for descaling your coffee machine

Rather than using white vinegar to descale your coffee machine, we recommend using specially developed products for safe and effective cleaning:

  • Choose the HG coffee machine descaler, depending on your coffee machine manufacturer's advice. This descaler removes limescale safely, quickly and without odour from all types of espresso and pod coffee machines and is fully biodegradable. Each pack is good for 6 descaling treatments.

Solutions for descaling your coffee machine with vinegar

If you are looking for a simple and affordable way to descale your coffee machine, you might consider using white vinegar. While this is not a professional method and does not always deliver the best results, it can be effective in some cases. Be aware that using white vinegar may carry risks. Here are some tips:

  • Use white vinegar with a high acid content for the best results.
  • Fill the water reservoir with half white vinegar and half water. Do not use more vinegar than water, as this may damage your machine.
  • Run the vinegar and water mixture through the machine and repeat this process if necessary.
  • After descaling, rinse the machine thoroughly with clean water to remove all vinegar residue.

While white vinegar can work in some cases, we recommend choosing the HG coffee machine descaler for optimal results and to avoid unnecessary risks. It is specially developed for your coffee machine.

Causes of limescale in coffee machines

Limescale in coffee machines is a common problem with several possible causes:

  • Hard water: If you live in an area with hard water, the water contains more minerals, such as calcium and magnesium, which contribute to limescale formation.
  • Frequent use: The more often you use your coffee machine, the faster limescale can build up.
  • High water temperature: The high temperature needed to brew coffee can speed up limescale formation.
  • Lack of regular maintenance: If you do not descale your coffee machine regularly, limescale can build up and cause problems.

To prevent limescale in future, you can do the following:

  • Use filtered water with a lower mineral content.
  • Descale your coffee machine regularly according to the manufacturer's recommendations, usually every 1 to 3 months, depending on water hardness and usage.
  • Use a specially developed descaler suitable for your type of coffee machine for the best and safest results.
