What is a good degreaser for the kitchen?

A good kitchen degreaser is one that effectively removes stubborn grease and dirt from a wide range of kitchen surfaces. HG offers two suitable solutions for this purpose: HG grease away and HG power foam kitchen. Both products are designed to work safely on different surfaces and provide thorough cleaning results. Household alternatives such as washing-up liquid, lemon juice or white vinegar may also be used. However, these methods are not always suitable for every material and may not be as effective when dealing with heavier grease build-up. To prevent grease accumulation, it is important to clean regularly, ensure good ventilation whilst cooking and adopt appropriate cooking methods. Always follow the manufacturer's maintenance instructions.

HG solutions for degreasing your kitchen

To effectively degrease your kitchen, HG offers the following solutions:

  • HG grease away: This is an extremely powerful grease remover suitable for all surfaces, including stainless steel, aluminium, plastic, natural stone and ceramic. Turn the nozzle a quarter turn, spray onto the surface, allow it to work for a few seconds and wipe away the grease using a cloth dampened with warm water. Repeat if necessary depending on the amount of soiling.
  • HG power foam kitchen: This product features a self-working foam that spreads easily and reaches difficult areas without requiring heavy scrubbing. Shake well before use, spray from a distance of 15–20 cm, leave to work for 5–10 minutes and rinse thoroughly afterwards.

For best results, always follow the instructions provided with the product. For more tips on cleaning your kitchen, visit our page: how to clean a kitchen.

Solutions for degreasing your kitchen

Several household cleaning methods are sometimes used to remove grease from kitchen surfaces:

  • Washing-up liquid: Mixed with warm water, this can help remove grease using a sponge or cloth.
  • Lemon juice: The acidity can help break down grease when applied and rinsed.
  • White vinegar: A solution of vinegar and water can be sprayed onto surfaces and wiped away.
  • Kitchen paper: Can be used to absorb small grease spills before cleaning.

These methods can help in certain situations, although they may not be suitable for all materials and should always be tested first. For stubborn grease, we recommend using HG grease away or HG power foam kitchen.

Causes of grease build-up in the kitchen

Grease build-up can occur due to several factors:

  • Cooking with oil or fat: When frying, roasting and deep-frying, grease splatters can land on surfaces.
  • Lack of regular cleaning: If you don't clean regularly, greasy residue and dirt can accumulate.
  • Poor ventilation: Inadequate extraction during cooking can lead to a build-up of greasy fumes.
  • Splashes during dishwashing: An overfull or incorrectly loaded dishwasher can spread grease and food residue.

To prevent grease accumulation:

  • Clean surfaces regularly, including the extractor hood and hob.
  • Use a splatter screen whilst cooking to minimise grease splatters.
  • Ensure good ventilation whilst cooking by using the extractor hood or opening a window.
  • Load dishwashers correctly and avoid overloading to reduce splashing.
  • Choose grease-free cooking methods, such as steaming, grilling or oven baking.
