Solutions for cleaning an induction hob
For cleaning an induction hob, there are several household remedies you can try, although these are not always the most effective or safest option. Here are some possibilities:
- Make a mixture of warm water and washing-up liquid. Apply this to the hob, use a soft sponge to remove the residue and rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- Make a paste of water and baking soda. Gently rub this paste over the residue, leave it for a few minutes and then wipe it away with a damp cloth.
- Use a soft microfibre cloth dampened with warm water for light soiling and daily cooking residue. This removes surface dirt without damaging the hob.
- Use a glass scraper to gently remove stubborn residue. Be very careful to prevent scratches on the surface.
Although these household remedies can help with cleaning your induction hob, they are not always the most thorough or safest solution. Some methods may potentially damage the surface or may not be effective enough to remove all residue. If in doubt, or for stubborn residue, we recommend choosing HG hob cleaner extra strong or HG hob cleaner, which are specially developed for induction hobs.
Causes of residue on an induction hob
Residue on your induction hob can have several causes:
- Cooking residue that remains on the hob and burns on due to heat.
- Using pans with a rough or damaged base, which can cause scratches and residue to form.
- Limescale deposits from cooking with hard water or from liquids boiling over.
- Using aggressive or abrasive cleaning products that can damage the hob's coating.
To prevent residue in future, you can do the following: Wipe the hob clean immediately after use with a damp cloth to remove cooking residue. Use pans with a smooth, flat base that are suitable for induction. Prevent liquids from boiling over and remove limescale deposits regularly with a mild descaler. Use mild, non-abrasive cleaning products that are specifically suitable for induction hobs.
