How to best clean an air fryer?

Cleaning an air fryer can be challenging due to baked-on grease and food residue that builds up during regular use. For effective and safe cleaning, HG air fryer® cleaner is specially developed to remove stubborn grease stains thoroughly without damaging the appliance. In addition to this specialist product, other cleaning methods are sometimes suggested, such as using warm water with washing-up liquid, a paste of lemon juice and water, or a mixture of vinegar and water. Whilst these alternatives can help in certain cases, they are not always recommended and may not provide consistent results.

Regular cleaning after each use and limiting the amount of oil or marinades used during cooking can help reduce the build-up of residue. This makes ongoing maintenance easier and helps to extend the life of the appliance.

Solutions for cleaning your air fryer

There are also household methods that can be used to clean an air fryer, although these methods are not always the safest or most effective:

  • Use warm water with washing-up liquid to clean removable components such as the basket and drawer. After cleaning, allow them to dry thoroughly
  • Apply a paste made from lemon juice and water to stubborn stains. Leave it to work for a few minutes before wiping it away carefully
  • Use a mixture of vinegar and water to clean the inside of the air fryer. This mixture can also be heated briefly inside the appliance before wiping away

Whilst some people suggest using a dishwasher tablet to clean an air fryer, this is generally not recommended. Dishwasher tablets contain strong chemicals that can damage the coating and are not always suitable for use in food appliances.

Always consult the manufacturer's instructions before applying any household methods. These approaches may not always be suitable and could shorten the lifespan of the appliance.

Causes of a dirty air fryer

An air fryer can become dirty and difficult to clean for several reasons:

  • Lack of regular cleaning: Food residue is allowed to build up and bake on
  • Use of oil or marinades: These can splatter and adhere to internal surfaces
  • Cooking high-fat foods: These release grease that settles inside the appliance
  • Incorrect placement of components: This can allow food to become trapped

To help prevent these problems, clean the appliance after each use and use minimal oil or marinade when preparing dishes. Position components correctly according to the manufacturer's instructions and follow their guidelines for proper maintenance. Regular care and attention will help maintain your air fryer's performance and extend its lifespan significantly.
